Police drone and helicopter drafted in after man is found on roof of shop

A police helicopter and drone were used to find a man on the roof of a Superdrug shop after a high street was taped off as part of a search.

Durham Constabulary officers were called in after reports of a man acting suspiciously in Front Street, Chester-le-Street, just after 6am this morning, Tuesday, April 28.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Officers found the man on the roof of the Superdrug store.

“The police drone and helicopter were called as well as the fire and ambulance service and a section of Front Street was temporarily closed.

“Just before 9am, a 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and assaulting a police officer and inquiries are ongoing.”
