A MAN was left with a cut to his neck after he was attacked with a knife in a daylight assault.
The 21-year-old was walking on grass close to University Metro station, off New Durham Road, Sunderland, when he was approached by a man just before 1.45pm today.
The area was cordoned off this afternoon as investigations were launched into what happened.
Police believe a knife was used, leaving the victim needing hospital treatment at Sunderland Royal.
Superintendent Jim Napier,said: “We are appealing for the public’s help to identify the man responsible for this attack.
“This is an incident that happened in the middle of the day, and there may have been people around who saw something but didn’t realise what they were witnessing, so we would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at that time.
“Incidents of this type are very unusual and we understand that people will feel concern.
“Neighbourhood officers are out and about in the area in support of the investigation and to provide reassurance.”
