Police appeal after arsonists target cars in Thorney Close

Police have appealed for help after arsonists targeted cars parked on a Sunderland estate.

Arsonists targeted vehicles in Thorney Close on the morning of Tuesday, December 17.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 2.30am, we received a report that individuals had set fire to a number of vehicles in the Thorney Close area of Sunderland.

“Officers attended and found two vehicles that were parked on Telford Road and Torrens Road had been set on fire, while a third car on nearby Tilbury Road had also been targeted.

“An investigation has been launched and we are now carrying out a number of enquiries to locate those responsible. Thankfully, nobody was injured.

“Neighbourhood officers will be carrying out increased patrols in the area to offer reassurance to residents.
