A WOMAN died of an overdose while “experimenting” with drugs given to her by her boyfriend, a court heard.

Sarah Peachey, 21, was killed by a combination of heroin, diazepam and alcohol while staying at her boyfriend Ben Ferguson’s house when his mother was away overnight last July.

Ferguson, of Cotswold Place, Peterlee, has admitted he supplied the 21-year-old with diazepam that evening but denies he gave her heroin.

The 27-year-old is being tried by a jury at Newcastle Crown Court on one charge of supplying heroin, a class A drug.

Prosecutor Jolyon Perks told jurors Ferguson admitted to police he had given Miss Peachey heroin before because he “wanted her to understand how bad heroin addiction is” and that she had “pleaded” with him to let her try the drug in the past.

The court heard while prosecutors say Ferguson supplied Miss Peachey with drugs that night, he faces no charges in relation to her death.

Mr Perks told the jury: “You are not trying this defendant for killing Sarah Peachey.

“You have to approach this case and put aside prejudice or shock in relation to the outcome, what happened to that poor girl.

“Look at the facts of the case we present to you and make a decision on the guilt or innocence of this defenant.”

The trial continues.
