Pensioner injured in two-car smash

A PENSIONER was taken to hospital after a car crash.

Emergency crews were called to Station Road in Fulwell, Sunderland, yesterday after a collision between a Toyota Avensis and a Vauxhall Astra.

Police said a 66-year-old man – who was driving the Toyota – was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital with spinal injuries.

A driver and passenger in the Vauxhall Astra were not injured.

Police are appealing for information about the crash, which happened at about 1.20pm.
