A MAN suffered a back wound and broken pelvis after he was struck by a van.
He was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary for surgery, after the incident in James Street South, Murton, County Durham.
Detectives are now investigating as to whether the man – in his 20s and from Murton – was knocked over by accident or deliberately.
Peterlee CID, which is investigating the disturbance, said it involved a white Transit van.
Detective Constable Martin Wilson said: “There has been a collision with a van and we are investigating to see whether that has been a road traffic accident or a deliberate act.”
He added: “We know there were many people in the street who might have information about what happened and we would appeal for them to come forward.
“Our inquiries are putting together the jigsaw pieces about what went on and we want to hear from those who can help.”
The incident happened at about 9pm on Tuesday.
