THE funeral of a murdered takeaway boss will be held outside so all of the community can attend.
It’s hoped that Tipu Sultan’s funeral will be held at the Sunderland Bangladeshi Community Centre in Tatham Street, on Tuesday afternoon.
The 32–year–old was shot at the rear of his family business Herbs & Spice Kitchen in Lake Avenue, South Shields, just before 10pm on Tuesday, April 7.
Police are still trying to find two men on a motorcycle who they believe are responsible for the father-of-two’s killing.
A second post-mortem was held earlier today.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “A second post-mortem has been carried out, it’s been established that Tipu Sultan died as a result of a gun shot (wound).”
We’re all hoping that Tipu’s body can be resealed today, and if that happens then his funeral can go ahead on Tuesday.
The Bangladeshi community are now praying that Mr Sultan’s body can be released, if this happens than his funeral will be held in the community centre’s carpark so as many people as possible can attend.
A member of the Bangladeshi community said: “This will be one of the biggest ever funerals within the Bangladeshi community.
“We’re all hoping that Tipu’s body can be resealed today, and if that happens then his funeral can go ahead on Tuesday.
“It will be held in the community centre’s car park, because we know that so many people are going to want to attend.”
On Thursday, Mr Sultan’s brother Mahsum Sultan, 24, and parents Aleya Begum and father Amin Maih, made an emotional plea to the public at South Shields Police Station for those responsible for the killing to be found
Mahsum said: “Tipu was a family man who was involved in both communities in Sunderland and South Shields and we’re grateful for all the support we have had from the community and the police.
“If anyone can provide information, come forward. We don’t want any other family to go through what we have been though.”
Police have released a number of CCTV images of two men on a motorbike who were spotted heading along Lumley Avenue, Chirton Grove and then into Lake Avenue, moments before the shooting.
They then left the scene along Lizard Lane towards the Whitburn area.
A 35-year-old man from Newcastle was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and has been released on bail pending further inquiries.
