A TOUGH crackdown on burglars has been launched by police.
Officers covering the east of Sunderland have pledged to tackle the rising number of break-ins in the area.
Patrols have been stepped up and officers are handing out crime prevention advice to residents.
Neighbourhood Inspector Jamie Southwell, of Sunderland East Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Our advice is always make sure doors and windows are secured and good quality locks are used on buildings such as sheds, garages and outhouses.
“Officers will be carrying out extra patrols in the area to remind residents of the steps they can take to prevent themselves from being a victim of crime and we’d urge people to make sure they keep their homes and belongings secure from thieves.”
