Noisy neighbour warned he could face two years in prison if he breaches injunction

Sunderland City Council have successfully brought an injunction against Glen Watson, of Dunstanburgh Close, Washington, after they received numerous complaints from a neighbour.

On Wednesday May 6, Sunderland County Court granted the order which, if breached by Mr Watson, could see him facing up to two years in prison or given a fine.

During the remote hearing, the court heard that 84 incidents of noise disturbance were recorded between October 2019 and April 2020.

Forty-five of those took place between the hours of 11pm and 7am with a further nine recorded on council noise monitoring equipment.

Sunderland City Council's Deputy Leader and Chair of the Safer Sunderland Partnership, Councillor Michael Mordey said: "Complaints about Mr Watson date back to before the current lockdown.

“There has been loud music from his property late at night and into the early hours, and many complaints."We should all have due regard to think about how our actions can impact on others and, sadly, this has not been happening here in Dunstanburgh Close."The council has now taken this injunction to the courts who have now granted this legal order against Mr Watson.”The order states that Glen Watson or visitors to the property must not cause loud or ongoing noises such as shouting, using offensive or threatening words or playing loud music.
