No charges after Seaham street brawl

NO action is to be taken against a man arrested after a street fight.

A section of Church Street in Seaham was cordoned off in the aftermath of the brawl, which left a man in hospital with head injuries.

The victim was taken to the James Cook University Hospital by ambulance for treatment following the incident in the early hours of Saturday.

Police say the injured man did not wish to speak about the incident and inquiry has since come to a close.

The man in his 20s, arrested on suspicion of assault, has been told no further action will be taken against him.

Witnesses told the Echo a large number of people were involved in the fracas, with workers finding blood and hair on the ground as they arrived for their shifts.
