POLICE have confirmed they are treating a man’s death as a murder.

A 34-year-old man was arrested after the body was found at a house in Southwick Road, near The Green in Southwick, yesterday morning.

Officers were called out shortly after 11am when they received reports that a man had suffered serious injuries.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses as part of a murder investigation.

“Officers were called to an address in Southwick Road at 11.13am on Sunday, December 14, following reports of a man with injuries.

“Police and the ambulance service attended and found the body of a man who had died.

“A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently helping police with enquiries.

“Police are appealing for witnesses anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact police. There are additional officers on patrol in the area to reassure the community and to answer any community concerns.

“Anyone with information should contact police on 101, extension 69191, quoting log number 583 of 14/10/14 or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
