Murder jury sent out

A MURDER trial jury will today resume its deliberations.

Jurors were sent home overnight after failing to come to a conclusion in the case of Nicholas Warrender, after defence evidence ended yesterday

The 23-year-old, of Avenue Viivian, Fence Houses, denies murdering Kevin Gaunt in the village.

The 52-year-old dad died after he was stabbed during a doorstep confrontation after a family row in June.

Warrender has told the jury at Newcastle Crown Court that he did not know the fatal wound had been inflicted, and he had not intended to harm anyone on the night of the killing.

He claimed he had been holding a steak knife he was using to eat an apple, when Mr Gaunt punched him to the ground.
