A FORMER Littlewoods worker stole to help cover the cost of car insurance after she lost her job.

Mum Kady Louise Hutchinson concealed three boxes of perfume and aftershave and six packs of Bonjela by putting them inside a bag and cardboard box as she went around Boots in Durham.

Jonathan Bambro, prosecuting, told Peterlee Magistrates’ Court that the 27-year-old was stopped by security staff and police were called after she failed to pay for the items on Monday, February 4.

Hutchinson, of Balmoral Terrace, Grangetown, admitted stealing £142-worth of products.

Dan Pygall, mitigating, said Hutchinson, who has a 10-year-old son, intended to sell the items to raise funds to pay her car insurance.

He said: “She has worked for Littlewoods and lost that employment around two years ago and then had further employment as a carer, but lost this job a couple of months ago, which has led to money problems.”

Magistrates sentenced her to a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered her to pay £85 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
