DURHAM prisoner Levi Bellfield’s compensation claim for being attacked will cost the taxpayer at least double the £4,500 he was given.

Bellfield, 45, is being held at HMP Frankland for the murder of 13-year-old Milly Dowler in 2002.

Durham County Court documents show his bill will rise to almost £10,000 because of a £5,000 fee which is due to his legal team.

It comes after Bellfield was attacked by a fellow inmate at HMP Wakefield, West Yorkshire, in 2009.
