A MAN has denied stealing cash and cigarettes from a Metro passenger.

Ryan Richardson is accused of forcing the man to hand over a pound and two cigarettes, after confronting him at Sunderland Central station.

The 25-year-old, from Sunderland, appeared at the city’s magistrates’ court charged with robbery.

Paul Anderson, prosecuting, said the offence is alleged to have taken place on Tuesday.

Richardson, of Azalea Terrace North, was not asked to enter a plea to the charge.

He was remanded in custody and will appear at Newcastle Crown Court on May 9.
