Manhunt launched after hooded pair flee suspected stolen car smash in wake of police pursuit

Police say two men ran off from a suspected stolen car after it crashed into another vehicle the wake of a police pursuit.

Durham Constabulary officers found the Mercedes abandoned this afternoon, Monday, May 11, following on an earlier short pursuit of the vehicle on Beverley Way, Peterlee.

Inquiries are now underway to try to trace two men who were seen running off from the car after it collided with another vehicle in Newark Close, near to the junction with Beverley Way.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Our officers were involved in a short pursuit with a suspected stolen Mercedes in Beverley Way, Peterlee, at about 12.50pm today.

“The car was lost but relocated in Newark Close, after it crashed into another car.

“Two men wearing hoodies were seen making off from the vehicle.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call Durham Constabulary by calling 101, quoting incident reference number 136 of May 11.
