Man tried to smuggle vacuum cleaners out of Sainsbury’s in suitcase

POLICE are appealing for help to trace a man after an attempted shop theft in Washington.

It happened on Monday, May 26, between 6.06pm and 6.50pm at Sainsbury’s Store in The Galleries in Washington.

The offender removed the tags from two Dyson vacuum cleaners which were placed in a black suitcase, which he then tried to exchange for a previously-bought red case.

The exchange did not take place and the man made off empty handed. The offender then left in a maroon Volvo car.

Police investigating have released an image of a man they need to identify and speak to in connection with the incident.
