Man taken to hospital with head injury following rush hour crash between car and pedestrian

A man has been taken to hospital with a head injury following a crash between a car and a pedestrian during morning rush hour.
Police were called to the incident on  Newcastle Road, in Chester-le-Street.

Police were called to the incident on Newcastle Road, in Chester-le-Street, at around 8.30am on Tuesday, December 3, and a man was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

The road is currently closed in both directions between the mini roundabout and the traffic lights and drivers are being asked to avoid the area by police.

A spokeswoman for Durham Constabulary said: “We were called to reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a car on Newcastle Road, in Chester-le-Street, shortly after 8.30am this morning.”

“A man has been taken to the RVI, in Newcastle.

“The road is currently closed in both directions between the mini roundabout and the traffic lights and we are advising motorists to avoid the area.”

North East Ambulance Service confirmed the ambulance crews had taken a man to the Royal Victoria Infirmary with a head injury.

An ambulance service spokesman said: “We were called at 8.32am to a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Pelaw Bank in Chester-le-Street.

“We sent a double-crewed ambulance and took a male patient with a head injury to the Royal Victoria Infirmary.”
