Man seriously injured after suspected machete attack in Sunderland

POLICE investigating a suspected machete attack that left a man with a serious arm injury, were called out to an estate in Sunderland after a report of men carrying firearms.

Just after 11am yesterday, police teams attended Marley Pots where they stopped and questioned two men suspected of carrying the weapons.

The callout came less than 24-hours after a 26-year-old man was left badly injured following a street attack in Grosvenor Road, Southwick.

The assault, believed to have involved a number of men, was carried out close to a grassed area of the street at about 2.20pm on Thursday.

The men stopped yesterday were not found to be carrying any weapons.
