A MAN has appeared in court accused of taking cash and booze amounting to more than £1,000 in a robbery at a Sunderland shop just before Christmas.

Ian Michael Wilson has been charged with robbing the Premier Shop, in Ethel Terrace, Castletown, on Sunday, December 21.

Wilson, 45, of Elms West, in Ashbrooke, is alleged to have taken money and 24 cans of Fosters lager of a combined value of more than £1,084.

In a short hearing at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court, Wilson, who was defended by solicitor Jason Smith, entered no plea to the charge of robbery.

He was remanded in custody by district judge Roger Elsey.

Wilson is set to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on Tuesday, January 13.
