A man remains in with serious facial burns following a house fire in Horden which led to a woman being arrested on suspicion of producing cannabis.

Durham Constabulary has confirmed a man, aged in his 20s, remains in hospital after suffering serious burns to his face after a fire broke out at a property in Rosedale Terrace, Horden, on Thursday evening (July 2).

The man was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary by paramedics and his condition has previously been described as ‘serious but stable’.

On the evening of the fire, a woman, aged in her 30s, was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the production of cannabis. She remained in police custody on Friday, July 3, being questioned by officers.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing after a fire broke out in the kitchen area of the house at around 10.10pm and caused significant damage to the property.

Pictures showed a lone police van parked outside on Friday, July 3, and the house was cordoned off by police.

A Durham Constabulary spokesman said on Friday: “The investigation is in its initial stages and at this point it is too early to speculate on the cause of the fire.

“A joint police and fire service investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire, which caused significant damage to the property.”

Three fire engines, a double-crewed ambulance, specialist paramedic and a hazardous area response team were also called to the incident.
