DETECTIVES are beginning to question a man arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder as part of the investigation into the shooting of takeaway boss Tipu Sultan.

The 35-year-old from Newcastle was arrested today and is in police custody,

Northumbria Police say the inquiry into the murder of the 32-year-old in Lake Avenue, South Shields, on Tuesday night is ongoing.

He was shot at close range just before 10pm at the rear of Herbs and Spice Kitchen takeaway.

Two men on a motorbike were seen driving into the rear lane in Lake Avenue just before the incident and seen driving away immediately after the shooting of the father-of-two, from Millfield, Sunderland.

Footage taken from a CCTV camera in Lizard Lane captured the two men on the motorbike shortly after the shooting happened.

They left the area towards Whitburn and Sunderland.

Police have since carried out searches of the land along Lizard Lane, including areas of Whitburn Golf Club.
