A MAN has appeared in court charged with attempted murder following an alleged street attack that left a man fighting for his life.
Karl Pascoe, of Striding Edge, Blackfell, in Washington, has been charged with the attempted murder of a 32-year-old after the alleged assault in the early hours of Monday morning.
Pascoe, 28, appeared before city magistrates on Boxing Day.
He was charged in connection with the incident which left the man in hospital with a serious head injury after the altercation.
The 32-year-old was allegedly assaulted in Woodland Terrace, Concord, Washington, just after 1am.
Police say he is still in a critical but stable condition in Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary, where he is being treated for his injuries.
A 22-year-old woman, who was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, has been released with no further action to be taken.
Officers investigating the attack have asked anyone with information to get in touch.
