Man left with serious head injuries after Murton attack

A MAN has been left with serious head injuries after he was assaulted and found unconscious in the street.

The victim is today recovering in hospital after he was discovered lying by the roadside.

Detectives in East Durham were alerted after a member of the public found the 20-year-old local man unconscious in Henry Street South, at 10.15pm, on Friday night.

He was taken to hospital where his condition is said to be serious. Detectives are now trying to piece together the circumstances leading up to the assault.

Det Con Lindsay Brown of Peterlee CID, said: “We would appeal for anyone who was in the Henry Street South area of Murton at about 10pm on Friday to get in touch with us with any information they might have.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything that will assist us in building up a clear picture of how this man received these injuries.”

* A 23-year-old man was arrested on Saturday and charged with assault. He was remanded in custody and was due to appear in magistrates court today.
