Man knocked unconscious by thief who stole his wallet in city centre robbery

A man and woman have been arrested after a suspected city centre street robbery where a man was knocked out when he was pushed to the ground.

Durham Constabulary say the incident is believed to have happened in North Road in Durham at around 8pm on Thursday, October 8, and led to the victim’s wallet being stolen.

It is hoped witnesses will get in touch as inquiries continue.

A man and a woman were arrested on the night in connection with the incident but have since been released under investigation.

Temporary Detective Sergeant, Sarah Hindmarsh, of Durham Constabulary, said: “This was shocking crime that occurred on one of Durham’s busiest streets and left the victim unconscious outside the bus station.

“Thankfully the gentleman has now recovered but we are eager to trace more witnesses or anyone with information so we can bring the perpetrators to justice.”
