Man in hospital after Washington assault

A MAN is in hospital with injuries to his head after being attacked in Washington.

At 8.16pm on Saturday, April 18, police were notified that a 34-year-old man had been assaulted near to Hertburn Gardens, in Concord.

During the incident, which is believed to have involved a group of people, the victim was punched and struck with an implement causing a laceration to the back of his head.

He also has injuries to his face.

The man was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital for treatment.

His condition is described as stable and not considered life-threatening.

Officers are carrying out inquiries into the incident and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Extra officers are in the area carrying out enquiries and offering reassurance to residents.
