A MAN has appeared before magistrates accused of attacking pensioners during a terrifying home raid.

Richard Anderson, 41, of Lilburne Road, Hendon, appeared at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court this morning charged with aggravated burglary.

He is accused of taking part in the raid, which saw three thugs storm a house at Prince’s Gardens, Seaburn, on Saturday, January 14.

A 74-year-old woman was threatened before her 76-year-old husband was attacked.

The culprits then forced the couple to hand over a large amount of cash before fleeing the semi-detached home.

Two men, aged 28 and 38, who were arrested in connection with the raid have been released on police bail.

Two women, aged 24 and 38, have also been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

They have also been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
