Man in court over alleged Washington road rage knife attack

A LABOURER has appeared in court after it was claimed he carried out a roadside assault.

Timothy Affleck, from Co Durham, is said to have slashed another driver with a Stanley knife on Tuesday morning.

Affleck, 34, appeared at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court earlier today, charged with malicious wounding and possession of an offensive weapon.

Wearing a grey sweatshirt, he spoke only to confirm this details.

Prosecutor Paul Anderson told the court that an altercation took place at 7.15am, on Northumberland Way near Washington, which left a man wounded.

The alleged victim was treated for an injury to his hand at Sunderland Royal Hospital.

Chairman Jean Brown said that the claims were so serious, they must be dealt with at Newcastle Crown Court.

Affleck, of Bloom Avenue, Stanley, was remanded in custody and will appear there on October 1.
