A MAN has appeared in court charged with the murder of Bryan Knox.

Gary Mawson, 36, from Washington, was brought before Sunderland Magistrates’ Court this morning, following the death of Mr Knox on Sunday.

Mr Knox, 32, from Barmston, was found in a road leading to Usworth Hall estate, in the Stephenson area of Washington, shortly before 11am.

He was airlifted to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary, but died later that day from his injuries.

Mawson, of Alwin, Rickleton, spoke only to confirm his name and address during the short court hearing.

District Judge Helen Cousins sent the case to Newcastle Crown Court.

Mawson will appear there tomorrow morning.
