Man in court accused of stabbing former partner

A MAN has appeared in court accused of the attempted murder of his former partner.

David Martin is accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend outside the call centre where she worked.

Newcastle Crown Court heard how Martin, 29, allegedly carried out the attack on Friday, May 11.

The woman, in her 20s, was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital, though her injuries were not life-threatening.

Martin, 29, appeared in Newcastle Crown Court yesterday via video link from Durham Prison.

Mark Guiliani, prosecuting said: “On May 11, the defendant stabbed the victim, a former partner. He was not able to accept that the relationship was over.”

Martin of Telford Road, Thorney Close, Sunderland is charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

No pleas were entered but a provisional trial date was set for October 22. Martin was remanded in custody.
