Man dressed as Samurai warrior weilded sword at police

A MAN dressed as a Samurai warrior wielded a sword against police and bailiffs trying to evict him over unpaid debts.

Durham Crown Court heard Sergeant Peter Fraser was injured in the confrontation, outside a house belonging to Gareth Bowen in Sherburn Village, County Durham, on March 30, last year.

Bowen, 34, now of a secure mental health unit in Middlesbrough, admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.

The court heard Bowen has mental health problems, but has been assessed as fit to be dealt with in a criminal court.

Bowen’s case was adjourned for the preparation of a psychiatric report until June 8, when he will be sentenced.

He was given conditional bail.
