Man in court charged with attempted murder after police called to Sunderland street

A Sunderland man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder.

Danny Stothard, 28, of Primrose Street, appeared before South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court accused of trying to kill Robert Tullick on Wednesday.

Stothard was remanded in custody to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on February 28. No application for bail was made.

Police say they were called to Claxheugh Road, South Hylton, shortly before 4.30pm, after a report a man had been assaulted in the street.

They found Mr Tullick, 29, unconscious with serious head injuries. He was taken to hospital and remains in a critical, but stable condition.

A 25-year-old man who was assisting with their inquiries, has been released with no further action.

Detectives have appealed for witnesses to come forward, or anyone who may have information that can assist their investigation, to call 101 quoting reference 729 290120.
