Man charged with hammer attack

A MAN appeared in court accused of a hammer attack on a woman.

Michael Bentham is alleged to have broken his victim’s finger during the attack in her house in Peterlee.

No charges were put to the 26-year-old, from Peterlee, during the hearing at Durham Crown Court.

Judge Christopher Prince adjourned the case for a plea hearing on November 10 and set a provisional trial date of December 4.

Bentham, of Johnson Close, was released on unconditional bail.
