Man charged after patient had ears slashed

A 32-year-old has appeared in court after a man was found with injuries at his Penshaw home.

Gavin Sanderson, of Ross Lea, Shiney Row, appeared before Sunderland magistrates yesterday charged with grievous bodily harm, and the case was transferred to Newcastle Crown Court.

Police were called to The Poplars, Penshaw, at 10.48am on Tuesday. A 43-year-old man was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital to be treated for cuts to his ear.
