Man bailed after Metro station stabbing attack

POLICE investigating a suspected stabbing near a Metro station have released a man on bail.

The attack, which took place near University Metro Station, off New Durham Road, left a 21-year-old man with wounds to his neck, which were thought to have been caused by a knife.

He was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital following the assault, which happened just before 1.45pm on Sunday.

Police cordoned off the area around the station, near the Murray Library, while investigations took place.

A 32-year-old man was arrested in connection with the attack. He has been released on bail until October 21.

The victim was released from hospital on Sunday.
