Man attacked with lump of wood in Houghton

A MAN was beaten with a lump of wood in an attack in Houghton.

Police were called out just before 4.15pm, on Sunday August 31 after a report of a disturbance at a house in Elm Place, in Newbottle.

Officers attended the scene where a 44-year-old man was found with arm injuries after being hit with what was described as a piece of wood.

The victim was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital for treatment, however, his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of unlawful wounding. He is currently helping police with enquiries.
