Man arrested on suspicion of drink driving after car crash in Sunderland

A man has been arrested and a woman is in hospital after a car crash in Sunderland.

It happened at around 5.15am today in Railway Terrace, Coxgreen.

A Toyota Corolla was travelling west on Coxgreen Road when it collided with the kerb and into a parked vehicle.

A number of parked vehicles were damaged as a result of the collision.

A 28-year-old woman, a passenger in the Toyota, was taken to hospital for treatment, her injuries are thought to be serious but not life-threatening.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of driving above the limit.

Inquiries are ongoing into the collision and police are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in contact.
