A MAN has been arrested after a raid which uncovered illicit tobacco.
Durham County Council and police searched a house in Horden and arrested a 42-year-old man on suspicion of money laundering.
He has been bailed until March pending further inquiries.
Inspector Dave Coxon, from Peterlee Police, said: “In partnership, we intend to reduce the harm caused in our communities by serious and organised criminals, and appeal to the public to continue reporting criminal activity.
“People buying illicit cigarettes don’t know if they are genuine, what’s in the cigarettes and what their money is being used to fund.”
The council has said its efforts are aimed at stemming the supply of illegal tobacco, which undermines the work of its stop smoking services.
