Man arrested in connection with sweet shop burglary

Officers investigating the burglary of Bella Candy in Shiney Row reveal they are not linking other incidents in the area to the crime.

It comes as two premises in the area have had their windows damaged overnight on Saturday, January 2, however nothing is believed to have been taken from either.

Officers investigating the burglary of Bella Candy have arrested a 33-year-old man but have said they are not linking him to the latest incidents.

The sweet shop, on Beatrice Terrace, was broken into during the early hours of October 26 and police have revealed there is no evidence to suggest that the same person is responsible.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “We can confirm we are investigating a report of a burglary at Bella Candy in Shiney Row that took place in the early hours of October 26.

"A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with that offence and remains under investigation at this time.

"We are also aware that two premises had windows damaged overnight on Saturday, January 2, but it is not believed anything was stolen from the premises.

“We do review all crime reports in Shiney Row, analyse patterns of behaviour and then deploy our officers accordingly to deter any opportunistic thieves who may be operating in the area.
