Man arrested after Sunderland city centre assault

A MAN has been arrested following an assault in a Sunderland street.

At just after 8.20pm, on Friday, September 26, police received a report from the ambulance service of a man having been assaulted on Foyle Street in Sunderland city centre.

Officers attended the scene where a 34-year-old man was found suffering from head injuries.

He was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital for treatment where he remains.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He has been bailed as the investigation continues.

Police are keen to speak to any witnesses to the assault as there were believed to be people in the area at the time.
