Man arrested after indecent assaults and silver-car flashing incidents in Sunderland

A MAN has been arrested after sex offences against women and girls in Sunderland.

Police received reports of two indecent assaults and a number of flashing incidents carried out by a man in a silver vehicle over the weekend.

Police have now announced they have arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of outraging public decency and he is currently in custody helping with enquiries.

Sunderland Chief Inspector Jerry Pearson said: “We’ve been carrying out extensive enquiries into these offences and I’d like to reassure people that a man has been arrested and is currently in custody being questioned regarding these offences.

“We take all offences of this nature extremely seriously and extra patrols are being carried out in the areas affected to reassure residents and gather information.

“I’d like to stress that no physical harm was caused to the women and girls concerned, however, anyone with information or who has concerns should speak with local officers.”
