A man was arrested after immigration officers raided a Wearside takeaway shop and found a man who had overstayed his Visa.
Bits ‘N’ Pizzas, in Albany Village, Washington, was visited by officials on Monday.
A spokesman said they found a 26-year-old Indian man who was found to have overstayed his Visa.
The man is now in police custody where he is being questioned by officers.
A Home Office spokesman said: “Immigration Enforcement officers conducted a joint operation with Northumbria Police in Washington on Monday, May 22.
“At Bits ‘N ‘ Pizzas, Albany Village, which was visited at 11.15am, staff were questioned to establish whether they had the right to live and work in the UK.
“Officers arrested a 26-year-old Indian man who was found to have overstayed his visa.
“He was transferred to police custody and has been questioned by immigration officers.
“Immigration Enforcement is an operational directorate within the Home Office responsible for enforcing immigration law.”
