Man arrested after attempted robbery at Sunderland Post Office

Staff were threatened by an armed man as they started work at a Sunderland Post Office.

Staff at the shop, in Stockton Terrace, Grangetown, were preparing to start their shift when the would-be thief attacked at 7.23am on Monday, March 30.

Northumbria Police has confirmed it was called to the shop after reports of an attempted robbery.

A spokesperson said: “It was reported that a man entered the store and demanded money before threatening a staff member with a bladed article.

“Nobody was injured and the offender fled the scene empty-handed.

“An investigation has been launched into the incident and a 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery.

“He remains in police custody and is assisting officers with their inquiries.”
