A man has admitted driving with excess alcohol after he claims he had his drink spiked.

John Davison drove his Vauxhall Corsa on Durham Road while over the drink-drive limit on March 6, Sunderland magistrates heard.

Davison, of Thorndale Road, Thorney Close, had 99mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood – the legal limit being 80.

However, defence solicitor Tom Morgan said Davison’s drink had been spiked, and he intended to call a witness to testify that he poured alcohol into his drink. A special reasons argument will take place in September.
