A MAN has appeared in court accused of attacking his wife.

Michael Charlton appeared at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court yesterday to face charges of threatening to kill Samantha Charlton and causing her actual bodily harm.

Prosecutor Stan Sudworth said the attack allegedly happened at their family home in Townsend Road, Thorney Close, Sunderland, earlier that morning.

Charlton did not enter any pleas to the charges.

District Judge Roger Elsey decided the case should be dealt with at Newcastle Crown Court, where the 45-year-old will appear on February 6.

Charlton was released on bail on the conditions that he does not contact his wife, keeps out of Thorney Close and lives at an address in Portsmouth Road, Pennywell.
