A LORRY driver admitted killing a Wearside cyclist in a road accident.

Sean Ruff, 61, from Cleadon, died when the bike he was riding was hit from behind by Argos delivery driver Joseph Reed.

The accident happened on the A66 at Elton, near Stockton, at about 6.20pm on May 21.

Mr Ruff, a father-of-four, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Reed, 50 of Railway Terrace, Crook, was arrested and later charged with causing death by careless driving.

The charge was put to Reed during a short plea hearing at Teesside Crown Court.

Reed pleaded guilty.

Christopher Dorman O’Gowan, defending, applied for a report from the probation service before Reed is sentenced.

Judge Howard Crowson granted the application for the report.

Judge Crowson ordered the case to be listed for sentence on February 18.

The judge disqualified Reed from driving.

The length of the disqualification will be decided at sentence.

Reed was released on unconditional bail.
