A MAN charged with murder has made his first appearance at crown court.

Nicholas Warrender is accused of stabbing Kevin Gaunt at an address in Avenue Vivian, Fence Houses, on Saturday night.

Mr Gaunt, 52, died from his injuries after being taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital.

Warrender, 23, of no fixed address, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court via videolink to HMP Durham.

He was not asked to enter a plea to the murder charge.

A trial date has been listed for October 1.
