A MAN who killed a dad during a doorstep confrontation has been cleared of murder.

A jury at Newcastle Crown Court this afternoon returned a not guilty verdict for the murder charge facing Nicholas Warrender, who had stabbed Kevin Gaunt, 52, in June.

The 23-year-old, of Avenue Vivian, Fence Houses, had admitted carrying the steak knife but denied intending to kill.

He has been found guilty of manslaughter.
