LATEST NEWS: Man pleads not guilty to knocking down Sunderland schoolgirl

A MAN accused of knocking down and killing an 11-year-old schoolgirl appeared in court today.

Michael Porter, 40, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of causing death by driving when unlicensed, disqualified or uninsured.

Porter is alleged to have caused the death of Katelyn Pamela Louise Weldon on March 30, 2010.

The incident took place on Washington Road, Sunderland, where Porter is said to have been driving.

Appearing at Newcastle Crown Court today Porter, of Capetown Road, Castletown, Sunderland, entered a not guilty plea to the single charge.

The case was adjourned to July 12, 2013 and Porter was released on bail.
