LATEST NEWS: Czech couple arrested after airport cocaine seizure

A MAN and a woman from the Czech Republic have been charged with drug smuggling after the seizure of more than three kilos of suspected cocaine at Newcastle Airport.

Maros Kristof, 33, and Eva Makunova, 45, who both gave addresses in London, will appear at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court today charged with importing a controlled substance.

Border Force officers working at Newcastle International Airport discovered the class A drugs concealed in hold luggage on a flight from Brussels, on Tuesday morning (22 May).

Sam Bullimore, of Border Force, said: “As this detection shows, our officers are on constant alert to keep drugs and other banned substances out of the UK.

“Anyone with information about activity they suspect may be linked to drug smuggling should call our hotline on 0800 59 5000.”
